A caregiver is an individual designated by a qualifying patient who has agreed to assist the patient in his medical use of marijuana. A caregiver is authorized to possess and obtain medical marijuana from a dispensary. A designated caregiver may only assist one (1) qualifying patient.
Requirements
- Must be designated by a qualifying patient
- At least 18 years old
- Is not currently another qualifying patient’s caregiver
- Must be registered with the Department of Health (DOH)
- Has not be convicted of possession or sale of controlled substance
Becoming a Caregiver
A caregiver needs to be designated by a qualifying patient. The law requires that a potential caregiver shall undergo a criminal background check. Then send the completed application and other required documents and the applicable registration fee to the Department.
